Class Description & Important Information
Ignite your child’s passion for discovery with our interactive, hands-on K-5th grade science classes! Each month, students explore a new topic in physical or life sciences, building essential skills like teamwork, using scientific equipment, and applying the scientific method. Designed to be relatable and engaging, these classes provide a strong foundation for creative and critical thinking. All supplies are included for in-person sessions. Watch your student develop a love for science that prepares them for future learning adventures! Please note that we do not accept T-K without prior approval.
*There is an annual student fee for all students taking classes at Pacific Coast Learning Center. Some charter schools allow for this fee to be added to the cost of classes rather than being paid out-of-pocket by parents. If your charter agrees, you may add the fee to your 1st purchase order to cover the student fees. You may select this option when you register for the class on their site. EARTH SCIENCE $450
This course is for older middle school students (8th grade). We will cover material in the following areas: stars and planets, the sun, asteroids, comets, meteors, The Space Program, weather, rocks and minerals, fossils, mountain formation, volcanoes, earthquakes, erosion, glaciers, and more! Each week will have a live lecture and hands-on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab paperwork, and tests will be completed by the student at home. A science fair project will be completed by each student at the end of the 2nd semester. Two (optional) field trips will be offered during the year. All lab supplies are provided when students are in person.

LIFE SCIENCE $450
Step into the fascinating world of life sciences in this hands-on course designed for junior high students (ideal for 7th graders). Students will explore key biology topics, including cells, genetics, mitosis, meiosis, photosynthesis, respiration, the six kingdoms of life, and human anatomy. Each week features a live lecture and hands-on lab, with all lab supplies provided for in-person students. Textbook readings, homework, lab reports, and tests will be completed at home, and every student will design a science fair project during the second semester. An optional field trip may also be offered. Join us for an exciting, interactive introduction to the science of life! All lab supplies are provided when students are in person.

MARINE SCIENCE $450
This course is designed for younger middle school students (6th grade). We will introduce your student to the beauty of our oceans and the organisms that live in them. We will also focus on some local creatures that live right on our beaches, including the California grunion which lays its eggs here in the sand! Some dissections and fun projects are included. Each week will have a live lecture and hands-on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab paperwork, and tests will be completed by the student at home. A Shark Report will be completed by each student at the end of 2nd semester. Two (optional) field trips will be offered during the year. All lab supplies are provided when students are in person.

ROBOTICS 100 $450 ONE SEMESTER COURSE
Dive into the exciting world of robotics in this hands-on, one-semester elective! Students will explore the fundamentals of robotics, including designing, building, and programming robots to complete fun and engaging challenges. Using beginner-friendly tools and software, students will learn how to bring their robots to life. Through teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving, students will tackle real-world-inspired tasks like obstacle courses, object transport, and more. No prior experience is needed—just a curious mind and a love for learning!
**Each student will need a laptop or tablet with Wifi access for use in class.**

Psychology 10 - 12th $450
INFO & SCHEDULE
Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior. In this year-long intro course, students will gain insight into the birth of psychology, its major figures, perspectives, and most famous studies. Students will learn to evaluate psychological research, describe the anatomy and function of the brain, apply evidence-based techniques to improve study skills and explore mental disorders and treatment. This course will also cover topics including memory, learning and cognitive development, motivation, personality theories, lifespan development, and social psychology. In the classroom, students will receive direct instruction and participate in classroom activities and discussions. At home, students will be responsible for weekly reading and assignments including projects and one paper per semester. The unit on mental disorders and treatment is always a student favorite. Students will learn how the DSM is used to diagnose mental disorders, give a PowerPoint presentation on an assigned disorder, and evaluate a movie character of their choice for diagnosis.

Explore the exciting world of chemistry and physics in this hands-on course designed for 8th-10th grade students! Students will dive into essential concepts, conduct real-world experiments, and learn how physical science applies to everyday life. The course also covers earth and physical science topics to help 8th graders prepare for the California State Science Exam. Students in 9th-10th grade earning high school credit will tackle more advanced assessments, lab reports, and projects. Weekly 90-minute sessions include engaging lectures and hands-on labs, with all lab supplies provided for in-person students.
This A-G certified course (with your charter school or PSP approval) counts as one of the two required high school lab science credits. Each student will complete an exciting science fair project, and a working knowledge of Algebra 1 is essential for success. From chemical reactions to the laws of motion, this course is a fun and interactive way to discover the wonders of physical science!

Dive into the exciting world of biology in this comprehensive high school course, designed to fulfill one of the two required science credits for graduation. Through engaging weekly 2-hour sessions, students will explore fascinating topics in biology with dynamic lectures and hands-on labs. From cellular biology to ecosystems, this course emphasizes practical lab skills, critical thinking, and real-world applications of science.
Students will develop expertise in conducting experiments, analyzing data, and completing projects that bring biology to life. In-class practicum sessions will help reinforce lab techniques and scientific methods. All lab supplies are provided for in-person learners. This A-G certified course (pending approval from your charter school or PSP) offers an interactive, skills-focused approach to high school science. ALL NEW THIS YEAR! We have added a weekly Biology study hall on Tuesdays from 2:45-4:15 pm and Zoom office hours on Wednesdays 1:15-2:45pm. These sessions are not mandatory but are offered as extra help.
Students who add the HONORS portion will have additional information and assignments to complete. Students will cover material appropriate for them to take the CLEP exam for college credit. Honors students are encouraged to attend weekly biology study hall or office hours.Â

Forensic Science 9 - 12th 1st Semester $475

Forensic Science Elective (9-12th grades) will consist of weekly lectures and labs. Students will study the science of crime scene investigation. Topics included: scene of the crime, evidence, blood splatter patterns, forgery, autopsy, DNA, bugs, and dental records. This course will include a focus on careers related to crime scene investigation. The class concludes with the final practicum of a mock crime scene. All lab supplies are provided when students are in person.
**Please note that this elective is only for one semester. This class may be taken with Engineering, Health, or Urban & Wilderness Survival to have a full year of science or as an independent one-semester class.**

In this one-semester elective, students will apply engineering solutions to solve various real-world problems. Students will build technical skills by applying engineering principles to individual and team projects. Topics covered will be machines, molecules, electricity, energy and so much more. Answering questions such as how engines, pumps, phones, and satellites work.

ENGINEERING
Urban & Wilderness Survival 9 - 12th 2nd Semester $475
INFO & SCHEDULE
In this class, your student will learn critical survival skills for both urban and wilderness settings. Learning survival skills builds confidence, self-reliance, and resilience. Survival awareness is about preparation, not fear. The basic scenarios covered will be; Urban Disaster Survival. You are separated from your family and your home. Upon arriving home, you have no access to water, electricity, or gas. Learn skills to move through the city, make clean water, create warmth, find food, treat medical issues, and safely dispose of waste. Wilderness Survival; you’re camping in the wilderness and get separated from your group. Now you are lost. How will you survive until help arrives? Learn how to find water and clean it for consumption, make fires and shelters, and identify edible plants. Navigation with a compass and a map and essential fishing and trapping will also be covered. A final mandatory weekend survival camping trip is included in the cost of the class. Camping trip will be April 18-19, 2026

This 100% online, asynchronous, one-semester elective course is designed to meet California state health standards while offering a meaningful, science-based alternative to traditional public school health programs. Perfect for students who want a thoughtful, informative, and age-appropriate exploration of health topics, this course fits seamlessly into your schedule—no in-person meetings or textbooks required! In this course, students will explore essential health topics such as stress management, exercise and fitness, nutrition, brain health, disease prevention, and more. Weekly modules include dynamic videos, thought-provoking articles, and interactive discussion posts to keep students engaged.
